SCHIEWETZ
ASSEMBLY HALL at CAMP KERN
Camp Kern, a beloved part of Miami Valley summers since 1965, is a historic landmark for young
people from across Ohio. Wilcon was chosen to design-build an elegant and inspiring meeting-space,
the Schiewetz Center, with the caveat that it would harmonize with all of the buildings in this
extensive complex.
Constructed from cedar and stone, with exposed timbers and dormers that allow light inside,
Schiewetz Center is in perfect harmony with its woodland surroundings. Its stained wood ceiling and
exposed timber trusses radiate warmth and a feeling of unity with the natural environment – and with
the Y’s mission to offer meaningful outdoor experiences and learning.
Schiewetz Center comfortably accommodates up to 300, and has three breakout conference areas.
Though the exterior is rustic, the center has multimedia capabilities that make it useful for a wide variety
of meetings and functions.
